Current excavations by a research group from the Universities of Jena, Leipzig, and Kiel, the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT) in Jena, and the Bavarian State Office of the Preservation of Historical Monuments deliver new results on the Northern part of the Fossa Carolina, which was undiscovered until just a few years ago. The canal has been excavated directly at the stream of the Rezat River and even partially stabilized by elaborate wooden structures.
