Photonic Interfaces
Our research focuses on the supramolecular control of mechanical, photonic and electronic properties in thin films and interfaces and the derivation of corresponding structure-property relationships. In order to generate supramolecular structures in a controlled way, the group uses and develops techniques of interface assembly, mainly the Langmuir-Blodgett and related techniques, and characterizes the molecular thin films with sensitive methods, e.g. photothermal deflection spectroscopy. The films, which are tailor-made in their supramolecular, mesoscale and morphological structure, address a wide range of mechanical, photonic and electrical applications from membrane technology to sensors and optoelectronics.
Selected Research Topics
- Development of an in situ procedure for the study of self-assembly and self-healing of monolayers
- Characterization of intermolecular binding energies using Langmuir-Blodgett hysteresis experiments
- Supramolecular variation of LUMO energies (around 120 meV for fullerenes) and provocation of H and J aggregates using the Langmuir-Blodgett technique
