Diffraktiver Biosensorchip für den spezifischen Nachweis von Biomolekülen
We investigate and develop optical sensor systems for challenges in medicine, health, the environment, and security. The focus lies on novel and advanced sensing concepts and their translation into compact, robust, and application-oriented systems. Our work combines optical system design, automation, and data acquisition into integrated measurement solutions.
A key area of research is the development of imaging and spectroscopic methods with high efficiency and signal quality. This includes novel illumination concepts for Raman spectroscopy, high-resolution three-dimensional imaging techniques for large samples, and highly compact confocal Raman microspectrometers. These activities are complemented by research on multiparametric, label-free diagnostic approaches.
The working group serves as a central technology unit at Leibniz IPHT, identifying the specific experimental requirements of the institute’s research units and supporting their targeted implementation. The group consistently pursues the goal of advancing technical developments to the next possible technology readiness level (TRL). Tailored optical, automated, and software-assisted solutions enable the reproducible processing of large sample volumes and the transfer of laboratory setups into relevant research and application scenarios. In this way, the group provides key technological foundations for the realization of complex sensing and imaging systems at the institute.

The Technology Group Sensor Systems and System Integration works closely with the research units at Leibniz IPHT and provides key technological building blocks for imaging, spectroscopic, and diagnostic research projects. Through the development of tailored sensor and system solutions, the group supports the implementation of complex experimental as well as application-oriented research questions.
In addition, the group is involved in collaborative development projects with external partners from academia, industry, and user communities. These collaborations range from the joint development of compact sensor systems to the automation and scaling of experimental setups. The close integration of system design, integration, and technology transfer enables the group to strengthen the application orientation of photonics research at Leibniz IPHT and to translate photonic concepts into practical technological solutions. A particular focus is placed on the development of robust systems, including the early consideration of regulatory requirements such as those needed for CE or IVDR certification.
