Career and Family
Family-friendliness is deeply rooted at Leibniz IPHT: the balance between work and family is a lived reality for our 450 employees. Through a wide range of measures and an open organizational culture, the institute has created an environment where staff can harmonize professional and personal demands. The goal is to enable employees to find fulfillment in their work while also meeting their family obligations.

What Do We Mean by Family?
Family encompasses all forms of living together in which personal responsibility for others is taken on. This includes all family structures, regardless of legal definitions, and all life stages, from child care to caregiving responsibilities.
How We Support Work-Life Balance
The balance between work and family is a key factor in the well-being of our employees. That’s why we actively promote work-life integration by offering a wide range of benefits.
Welcome Center
At Leibniz IPHT, we ensure that new employees feel welcome from day one through our comprehensive welcome program. We provide support to all our new team members – especially those who are relocating from far away.
Our Welcome Manager assists with tasks such as communicating with authorities, finding accommodation, and arranging language courses. We also host welcome events for networking and getting to know your colleagues, helping everyone settle in quickly and comfortably. Additionally, each new employee is paired with a “Welcome Guide” to support their onboarding process.
Flexible Working Hours
Whether it’s childcare, family obligations, or individual lifestyle choices, we create space for diverse needs through flexible working hours and the option of remote work.
Support With Caregiving and Parental Leave Planning
The staff in our HR department have completed certified training as workplace caregiving advisors. This means we have a trained team that assists employees with any questions regarding the integration of work and caregiving responsibilities.
In addition, our HR department provides guidance for planning parental leave. For a smooth return to work after family-related leave, our team for workplace reintegration ensures a seamless transition.
Parent-Child Room
If regular childcare is unexpectedly unavailable and an important meeting at the office is scheduled, our Parent-Child Room offers a simple solution: while the child plays, work can be done in a quiet environment.
Reserved Spots at the Campus Kindergarten
Our institute has partnered with the Student Services of Thuringia (Studierendenwerk Thüringen) to offer a limited number of spots at the Beutenberg Kindergarten for the children of our employees. This facility provides care for children aged 6 months to elementary school age.
Subsidy for the Care of Children and Dependent Relatives
If, despite careful planning, it becomes necessary to arrange additional paid care for children or dependent relatives during a business trip or training, Leibniz IPHT can provide a financial subsidy.
