Working has changed in the Corona Crisis – also at Leibniz IPHT: “Snapshots: Research at Leibniz IPHT” captures the new everyday life at the institute. In the film series, staff members tell how the corona pandemic is changing our working life and our coexistence.

The team in the sensor production is working overtime, the director is switching from one online meeting to the next and at the reception nothing is possible without advance notice. And the employees at home juggle work and childcare and some of them have not entered the institute for weeks.

Episode 6: Managing the research institute through the corona crisis

Online meetings instead of business trips, numerous colleagues working from home, the responsibility for the safety of those who continue to work at the institute – and above all one common goal: How can we contribute with our research to contain the corona pandemic? In Episode 6 of “Snapshots”, Director Jürgen Popp explains the challenges the corona crisis poses for those working and researching at Leibniz IPHT.

Episode 5: The Labs stay open

Bilbao – Oxford – Jena: Pablo Carravilla has come to Leibniz IPHT as a Marie Curie Fellow to research how the HI-Virus multiplies in the body and and how this could be prevented by new therapies. In episode 5 of “Snapshots” he tells us how he is continuing his experiments despite the corona crisis.

Episode 4: Lockdown is elsewhere

Sarah Meinhardt at the reception is the first point of contact for everyone entering the institute. Episode 4 of “Snapshots” shows what this means in Corona times.

Episode 3: Safe rock during the crisis

Inspections with face masks, joint repair work at a distance and with gloves, and one joint motivation in all this: to keep the institute running during the crisis. Episode 3 of “Snapshots” shows how our operating technology team manages to do this.

Episode 2: Sensors that save lives

Overtime is the order of the day in sensor production: the infrared sensors from Leibniz IPHT are urgently needed for ventilators all over the world. Episode 2 of “Snapshots” shows how the team manages to ramp up production despite the closure of day-care centers and schools in order to make the life-saving technology available.

Episode 1: Hacking the shutdown

Benedict Diederich and René Lachmann give the starting signal. The two doctoral students have developed the optical toolbox UC2. Now they are working on a platform that will enable students to control their experiments under the microscope even when they are not in the laboratory: from their home computer. In the first episode of “Snapshots” they explain how this works.
