The aim of the proposed infrastructure measure at Leibniz-IPHT is to expand the possibilities for analysis and diagnostics and thus to provide novel technical solutions for bioanalytical and biomedical problems.

The focus of the project is on two main areas I) the deepening and extension of enantioselective analysis and II) the investigation of a new generation of multimodal and imaging methods based on coordinated special fibers with highly sensitive detectors.
In the field of enantioselective analysis, plasmon-based amplification of circular dichroism in the infrared (IR) range is used. Reliable and sensitive enantiomer-selective analysis and diagnostics is an important building block in the current and future development of personalized therapeutics but also for the selection and use of natural products in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.
In the second focus area, the application is, among others, the non-invasive early detection of cardiac diseases based on a non-contact fiber-based system solution. For the realization of this diagnostic approach, on the one hand special fibers for hybrid fiber structures and fiber lasers, which can be used in a broad spectral range, especially for light generation, have to be researched. Furthermore, these special fibers can be combined on the one hand with highly sensitive multimodal and imaging techniques and on the other hand with optically pumped magnetometers.

In this way, questions from basic research can be addressed as well as holistic system solutions up to laboratory prototypes for applications in medicine as well as environmental and life sciences can be created.
