In an interdisciplinary workshop which runs till March 13th at the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, more than 100 participants discuss new approaches for the dissociation of water into its constituent parts hydrogen and oxygen by using light.

Hydrogen production through the so called photocatalytic water splitting could substitute oil as primary energy source and help to avert the future energy crisis.

Apart from lectures and tutorials the workshop gives sufficient room to the more than 60 students to discuss ideas and outline scenarios interdisciplinary and apart from university structures and interdisciplinary.

Following the workshop, a two-day-long international symposium brings together the students with more than 40 internationally renowned scientists from the from the fields of physics and natural science.

The event is organized by IPHT Jena and Friedrich Schiller University Jena and takes part within COST-Network, European Cooperation in Science and Technology, PERSPECT-H2O Supramolecular Photocatalytic Water Splitting.

Photonics is one of IPHT Jena’s core competencie. The Institute conducts fundamental research within this field for more than 20 years.
