Increasing life expectancy in the population is creating a dramatic increase in age-related degenerative diseases and associated healthcare costs. The MOON project (Multimodal Optical Diagnostics for Age-Related Diseases of the Eye and Central Nervous System) addresses this societal challenge by applying photonic technologies to determine exactly what these diseases are. In line with the EU Photonics KET 2016 work program, the MOON consortium is developing a functional and multimodal multiband imaging platform that combines label-free, molecularly sensitive Raman spectroscopy with high-speed, high-resolution optical coherence tomography (OCT) to enable comprehensive diagnosis for age-related diseases of the eye and central nervous system.

The project is funded by EU grant Horizon 2020 under the number GA 732969 and co-funded by the project executing agency EU-H2020.
