Turkish scholarship holder researches materials for energy conversion
From Istanbul to Jena: Refik Arat is researching new materials for energy conversion and storage at Leibniz IPHT for one year. As a postdoctoral fellow in the “Photovoltaic Systems” working group, he investigates processes for graphene coating of different surfaces.
“Graphene is conductive and at the same time transparent and flexible,” explains the physicochemist, who is being funded for his research work with a scholarship from the Turkish Science Council. This means that it can be used in many areas, for example for energy conversion in solar cells, for energy storage or for chips in computers or smartphones.
“I am looking forward to discussing this topic with my new colleagues,” says Refik Arat, who started in Jena in September. And vice versa, says Prof. Benjamin Dietzek, head of the Research Department Functional Interfaces. “We benefit greatly from the fact that scientists from other countries come to our institute and we can jointly develop new ideas, for example to research environmentally friendly materials for the energy transition. This is exactly how we gain new insights: through open and international scientific exchange.”
