Training

The Leibniz-IPHT is pleased to be able to actively shape the future of young people as a training company and offers two different training courses:

Physics laboratory assistant (3.5 years)

Office management assistant (3 years)

Chemical laboratory technician (3.5 years)

Vacancies for apprenticeships will be published as required under the heading „Jobs“. Please refrain from sending unsolicited applications.

Physics laboratory assistant:

Are you mathematically gifted and enthusiastic about physical experiments? Would you like to work on exciting research tasks? Would you like to work with state-of-the-art technology? Then this is the right place for you.
Physics laboratory technicians determine the properties of materials and systems through experiments or series of measurements. To do this, they set up the experiment and carry out the experiment with the help of computer-controlled measuring equipment. They document, analyse and interpret the results obtained and prepare them for physicists or development engineers, for example. They also maintain and service the technical experimental and process equipment.

Legally, no specific school education is required. However, a good intermediate school leaving certificate or university entrance qualification is desirable.

Requirements:
– Observational accuracy (e.g. for recognising material changes in physical test series).
– Diligence and stamina (e.g. when carrying out long series of experiments)
– Sense of responsibility (e.g. when handling hazardous substances)
– Dexterity and good eye-hand coordination (e.g. when handling pipettes)
– Technical understanding (e.g. for maintaining equipment and experimental set-ups)

School subjects:
– Physics (e.g. to acquire knowledge in mechanics, optics or atomic and nuclear physics).
– Chemistry (e.g. to understand chemical bonds and reactions)
– Mathematics (e.g. for calculating the percentage composition of chemical compounds and determining statistical parameters)
– English (e.g. for exchanging information in international teams)

What can you expect as a trainee at Leibniz-IPHT?

You will work and learn in a team-oriented manner and under collegial working and learning conditions, often in international teams. Since your personal development is important to us, we encourage and challenge your personal responsibility and prepare you individually for your final examination.
In addition, you will benefit from our social services, such as capital-forming benefits, family trips home, standard leave, special annual payment and a final bonus if you successfully pass your final examination. And of course we offer you good chances of being taken on.

Business people for office management:

Are you interested in administrative work, do you enjoy working with modern computer technology, do you have a good command of German spelling and grammar, are you open to new things and responsible? Then this is the right place for you.

Office management assistants carry out organisational and commercial administrative tasks. They take on cashiering and accounting tasks and carry out secretarial and assistant tasks such as correspondence, drafting presentations, procuring office materials, managing appointments, preparing meetings and organising business trips. They also support staff planning and receive guests. In addition, due to the fact that the institute is a civil service institution, they are involved in drawing up the budget or business plan.

Legally, no specific school education is required. However, a good intermediate school-leaving certificate or university entrance qualification is desirable.

Requirements:
– Organisational skills (e.g. planning business trips).
– Flexibility and ability to work in a team (e.g. dealing with frequently changing tasks and work situations)
– Commercial thinking and numeracy (e.g. dealing with invoices)
– Communication skills and good manners (e.g. to respond to guests‘ concerns)
– Diligence as well as oral and written expression skills (e.g. at customer reception, writing business letters)

School subjects:
– German (e.g. for correspondence with customers and business partners).
– English (e.g. for communicating with international guests)
– Mathematics (e.g. for creating and processing invoices)
– Economics (e.g. for annual financial statements)

Chemical laboratory technician

Are you looking for a future-oriented and interesting apprenticeship that promotes your scientific talent and your enthusiasm for chemical experiments? Would you like to be involved in exciting research tasks and work with modern technology? Then this is the right place for you.
Chemical laboratory assistants test organic and inorganic substances and products and investigate chemical processes. They also produce mixtures of substances and develop or optimize the synthesis process of preparations. When analyzing substances, they apply various chemical and physical methods. They carry out measurements largely independently. They record experimental procedures and evaluate them on the computer. Since chemical laboratory assistants often work with hazardous substances, they carefully observe safety, health and environmental protection regulations. In addition to knowledge of chemistry, they also learn the basics of various other areas, such as physics, biology or environmental and toxicology studies.
Legally, no specific school education is required. However, a good middle school diploma or university entrance qualification is desirable.

Requirements:
– Dexterity and eye-hand coordination (e.g., when handling pipettes or tweezers or when measuring, decanting and transferring chemical substances).
– Observational accuracy (e.g., recognizing changes in color or consistency)
– Attention and stamina (e.g. when monitoring lengthy chemical experimental procedures)
– Technical understanding (e.g. when maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities)
– Enthusiasm for logical relationships (e.g. for understanding the content of an experimental sequence)
– Sense of responsibility (e.g. in complying with safety and environmental regulations)

School subjects:
– Chemistry (e.g., for the analysis and production of substances)
– Physics (e.g. for the experimental setup)
– Mathematics (e.g. for determining substance concentrations)
– English (e.g. for reading English-language technical texts and team exchange)
