The course of disease and the reactions of the immune system, and thus a precisely tailored therapy, are very different and individual in the case of infections. In the project coordinated by the University Hospital Jena, light-based methods for accompanying diagnostics and monitoring of bodily functions are being researched in order to be able to quickly and accurately characterize the individual response to the pathogen, even under time pressure in the intensive care unit. Here, Leibniz IPHT focuses on photonic technologies that allow characterization of the host response directly from minute amounts of sample material.

The project is funded by the BMBF and supervised by the VDI Technology Center under the number 13N15713.
