Take a look behind the scenes of Leibniz IPHT and learn more about the world of photonics in exciting experiments, exhibitions and laboratory tours.

25. November 2022

18:00 - 23:45

Leibniz-Institut für Photonische Technologien
Albert-Einstein-Straße 9
07745 Jena
Germany

For the already 8th Long Night of Science in Jena (LNDW), about 40 research facilities, institutes, and companies in the City of Light invite visitors to look behind otherwise inaccessible areas on November 25. On this evening, visitors can experience the facets of science up close and try them out for themselves. The event will focus on three city areas this time: In addition to the city center and the Beutenberg Campus/Carl-Zeiss-Promenade area, some companies and institutes in the Jena21 industrial park & Göschwitz industrial park are also on board for the first time.

The opening event begins for interested visitors at the Abbe Center (Beutenberg) on Friday, November 25, 2022, at 5 pm. From 6 p.m. until around midnight, all other partners also invite you to visit their various events.

The scientists of Leibniz-IPHT will also provide exciting and varied insights into their research work on this evening. The multifaceted world of photonics will be presented in numerous experiments, laboratory tours, and hands-on activities for young and old. For example, take a guided tour of the fiber drawing tower and learn how hair-thin optical glass fibers are created from centimeter-thick preforms. Learn how researchers at Leibniz IPHT developed the blackest black in the world, assemble a microscope yourself with the help of the optics construction kit UC2 (You.See.Too) or immerse yourself in the world of Lasergirl, the superheroine from the Leibniz IPHT science comic of the same name.

The complete program of Leibniz IPHT for the Long Night of Sciences is available here.
