The new version of a Cryogenic Current Comparator with eXtended Dimensions (CCC-XD) for the beam monitoring of charged particles was built and is currently being optimized. The CCC-XD is designed for a non-destructive, highly sensitive monitoring of nA beam intensities for larger beamline diameters planned for the new Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) at GSI (Helmholtz Center of Heavy Ion Research). Compared to the previous CCC currently running at CERN, the niobium shield exhibits extended geometric dimensions, which cause a more effective magnetic stray fields suppression caused by the beamline environment. For the CCC-XD readout new SQUID sensors with sub-μm Josephson junctions improving the noise-limited current resolution in combination with a good suppression of external disturbances are used. First results of electrical laboratory measurements are presented in this work. The CCC-XD system – in combination with a new developed cryostat – is ready for testing in the beamline of CRYRING at GSI in 2018.
