Polymeric carbon nitride (CNx) has attracted significant attention as a metal free, earth-abundant and highly stable photocatalyst. However, little is known about the charge-transport phenomena in CNx materials. Recently, in Beranek’s group, a novel red carbon nitride (R-CNx) was prepared from a heat treatment from the conventional yellow carbon nitride (Y-CNx) synthesized by calcination of melamine followed by functionalization with cocatalysts . Therefore, spectroscopic studies of yellow and red CNx-based materials are performed to provide an in-depth understanding of the fundamental charge carrier dynamics for the rational design of CNx-based materials with high catalytic activity.
