Congratulations to André Gomes from the Hybrid Fibres Working Group: He was awarded the 3rd prize for student presentations at the „IV. International Conference on Applications of Optics and Photonics” (AOP 2019) in Lisbon. His lecture “Enhanced Temperature Sensing with Vernier Effect on Fiber Probe baed on Multimode Fabry-Perot Interferometer” dealt with his work on fiber sensors, which he carried out as part of his doctoral thesis at Leibniz IPHT.

“It is always good to see my work being recognized by the scientific community. This motivates me to continue my reseach and do better and better every day. I must say that this work is not just mine, but it is the result of my interaction of different groups of the institute. I would like to acknowledge the help of Jan Dellith, from the Instrumental Analysis group, on applying the focused ion beam to optical fibers. My gratitude goes also to Manfred Rothhardt’s group, Passive Fiber Modules, especially to Martin Becker, for the support on the characterization of the sensor and interpretation of the results. At last, I would like to thank my supervisors: professor Hartmut Bartelt and professor Orlando Frazão,“ said André Gomes.
