Microbes often form surface attached communities called biofilms mainly to get protected against antimicrobials and other environmental stresses. This is a major problem in medical, environmental and industrial settings as getting rid of these biofilms is not always easy. Recent studies on nanoparticles have regarded them as important solutions for solving problems generated by biofilms. Many strategies have successfully been studied in an effort to find effective prevention and control routes for biofilms including dispersion, anti-adhesion and assassination methods. In this review, we attempted to provide outlines about the possible approaches to prevent and control of biofilms by bare titanium dioxide nanoparticles either being in amorphous or crystalline forms; anatase, brookite and rutile. Different approaches were presented by bare TiO2 nanoparticles. Coating surface by titanium dioxide nanoparticles improve the surface behavior by the repulsiveness, anti-adhesion, and self-cleaning. The biocide activity of anatse was approved at dark and light condition. Interestingly, anatse nanoparticles was used as a quencher agent for quorum sensing molecules.
