Effects of Increasing the Efficiency of Hydrogen Production Discovered
17.05.2015
Hydrogen is considered an important energy source of the future. One approach to the production of hydrogen is photocatalytic water splitting. Using light, water is divided into its components hydrogen and oxygen. Research scientists at IPHT have discovered that by exciting water with green light, electrons are transferred directly from the light-absorbing center to the site of splitting. The faster the electrons are transferred, the more efficiently light can be used for water splitting. [The PDF below contains the full German press release]
