Digitalization of the Life Sciences 

The overarching goal of the DigLeben research network is to support scientists in the life sciences in evaluating data and generating new insights by combining bioinformatics and machine learning. The innovative applications of the developed methods in the subprojects are examples and at the same time milestones for the future of digitization in the life sciences.

The Leibniz Institute for Aging Research – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) is also involved.

The project is divided into seven subprojects, four of which are designed as collaborations within the InfectoGnostics research campus:

  • Project 1: Digital identification of unknown pathogens of pneumonia.
  • Project 2: Predictive modeling of white light images using neural networks
  • Project 3: Artificial intelligence for drug and biomarker prediction
  • Project 4: Automatic detection of potential resistance gene transfer routes
  • Project 5: Taxonomic annotation of metagenome datasets
  • Project 6: Learning hierarchical open-box models from high-dimensional dynamic and spatial data
  • Project 7: Efficient queries for exploratory data analysis

The project is funded with 1.35 million euros from the new state program „ProDigital“. It is scheduled to start in 2020 after completion of the currently ongoing preliminary work, and is initially planned for five years.
