The collaborative project FaserNAV is developing a novel fiber optic probe that enables intrinsic catheter and instrument navigation without the need for radiation-based imaging (x-ray). For the first time, this probe is combined with a measurement of cardiac currents (electrocardiogram, ECG). This combination describes a completely new approach to non-invasive imaging for the detection of the catheter tip in the cardiac region. This requires the development of innovative solutions for the optical fiber, the generation of the sensors and their evaluation.

The project is funded by the Free State of Thuringia under the number 2023 VFE 0048 and co-financed by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
