Development of innovative laser protection textiles for the optical detection of laser radiation
Runtime: 01.10.2024 - 30.09.2026
The aim of the project is to develop a new type of coating on textile substrates for use in laser protection. With the help of so-called up-conversion particles, an innovative laser protection fabric is being developed which, in addition to known and established functions, also makes laser light in the NIR range visible to the human eye. The aim is to make not only the direct impact of the NIR laser beam, but also NIR scattered radiation and/or unwanted and unexpected reflections recognizable on large surfaces at low cost in order to significantly increase hazard awareness and thus hazard avoidance among users.
For the implementation and achievement of the objectives, the partners are working closely together to drive forward the development of suitable substrates and coatings with the various functions (from flexibility to passive laser protection, optical-spectroscopic properties, resistance, through to fabrication) and spectroscopic characterization through to the fabrication of the end products (curtains and, if applicable, clothing).
