Through the close cooperation of top research institutions and SMEs with their scientific and industrial competencies, topics such as medical analysis techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases , stem cell research or the development of pharmaceutical therapeutics are addressed. Age-related diseases such as dementia, autoimmune diseases and sepsis (infection research), and more recently SARS-CoV-2, which are characterized by pathophysiological disorders, require ever-increasing demands on the quality and design of analytical tools and close cooperation between technology, medicine and research.

The project aims to develop a dedicated electrophysiology platform for neural network analysis with highly sensitive readout electronics. A compact, low-noise potential analysis for the detection of smallest voltages but also smallest currents is a prerequisite. In the Leibniz-IPHT subproject, a technology for the fabrication of special highly transparent, aberration-minimized multi-electrode array chips with special material properties for recording objects in aqueous solution is being developed. The adaptable platform concept enables simultaneous measurements of temporal and spatial activity patterns of neuronal networks on a laboratory scale, with which both functional (electrophysiology) and morphological (microscopy) information can be simultaneously accessed experimentally.

This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), ZIM Cooperation Projects, under grant number KK5031306KA1.
