The goal of IMAGE-IN is to produce novel unique knowledge on imaging infections and for integrated, multiscale visualization of infections and host response. These domains play essential roles into understanding pathogenesis of infections but also expedite bench-to-bedside translation of new therapeutics. The overarching goal of the network is to spur interest and innovation in this emerging field. We anticipate that these technologies will not only allow unique insights. While molecular imaging is already in common use in the clinic, this network demonstrates how it could also become a valuable tool for clinical studies, patient care, public health, and for enabling precision medicine for infectious diseases. The IMAGE-IN consortium will form a European Industrial Doctorate (EID) project that is composed of academic partners with an established track record in collaborative research in combination with industrial partners from Germany and Portugal which provide a joint supervision and training of doctoral candidates. The doctoral candidates will spend at least 50% of their time in the "non-academic sector". They will be inscribed into the doctoral program of the FSU and jointly supervised by both sectors. This research training will equip the ESRs for future careers in academic and industrial research, and contribute to the development of therapeutic interventions that will help maintain a healthy population. Great attention is paid to the quality of supervision and mentoring arrangements as well as career guidance.
