The ambiguous relationship between the fractal dimension of the nanostructured silicon surface and its porosity has been described by a nonlinear dependence leading to chaos. Our estimated theoretical results are in good agreement with those obtained from the analysis of model fractals, digital image processing of electron microscopy of nanostructured surfaces and gravimetric measurements of surface porosity.
