We present a concept for improved distributed pressure measurements in medical applications using a multiplexed fiber Bragg grating array. A well-designed soft plastic coating mantle around an optical fiber converts local pressure variations into strain variations of the optical fiber core. This can be measured by fiber Bragg gratings and enables in situ measurements of peristaltic waves of the gullet.
